Ex-NBA President, Akpata Explains Attraction To Contest 2024 Edo Guber Election
Olumide Akpata, a Labour Party governorship contestant in Edo State’s upcoming gubernatorial election, has expressed his desire to run on the party’s platform for the state’s number one seat.
Akpata, the immediate past President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), made his formal declaration at the State Secretariat of the Labour Party in Benin, saying he decided to run for the state’s number one seat on the party’s platform because it is the country’s only people-oriented party.
According to him, I have decided to run for governor of Edo state in 2024 because I care about the people of the state and, therefore the Labour Party.
The lawyer-turned-politician, who lamented the exclusion of the people from administration and politics, stated that if given the opportunity to fly the LP banner in the upcoming election, he would change the narrative.
“My concern is for the people of Edo State,” he stated. And what I find in Nigerian politics and government today is that the people have been removed from the equation. Nobody is concerned about the people.
“So, when I look around, the only party I find to be people-oriented and to be interested in the lots of our people is the Labour Party. So I have come here to express my interest and to carry the people along.”
Akpata also promised to take the Labour Party to greater heights in the event that he emerged as the candidate of LP in the primary.
