Former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, elder statesman General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd), and Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago were among a host of prominent Nigerians who praised Dr. Dakuku Peterside’s newly released books, “Leading in a Storm” and “Beneath the Surface,” at a well-attended unveiling event held recently.

Described as essential reading for leaders, the books offer insights and solutions to navigate complex challenges and build a better Nigeria.

Professor Osinbajo lauded Peterside as a “participant-observer” rather than a detached critic, emphasising that his works offer “rigorous analysis with workable solutions.”

He highlighted Peterside’s courage in addressing sensitive issues like judicial reform with pragmatism and principled solutions. “In his framing, the books are not just essays and chapters; they are operating manuals for leaders who must make sense before they make moves,” Osinbajo stressed.

General Nwachukwu (Rtd), who chaired the event, traced Peterside’s consistent advocacy for equity, fairness, and national advancement throughout his public service career.

He used the occasion to reiterate his call for a People’s Federal Constitution negotiated by Nigeria’s diverse nationalities. “These books do not merely diagnose,” Nwachukwu stated, “they insist on bold, values-anchored, accountable leadership—and on building institutions that outlast politics.”

Governor Bago of Niger State connected the themes of “Leading in a Storm” directly to his state’s current challenges and progress.

He cited examples of securing communities, rebuilding infrastructure, and positioning Niger as Nigeria’s food capital.

“It is not enough to criticise government; citizens and leaders must get involved,” Bago emphasised. “Dakuku doesn’t just critique; he provides solutions—and we are applying them.”

Engr. Jackson Offor, the Chief Presenter for “Beneath the Surface,” described the book as a “mirror held to the nation’s soul.”

He argued that Nigeria’s recurring problems stem from a deficit of truth, trust, and accountability.

Mr Adokiye Ikpoki, the Chief Presenter for “Leading in a Storm,” presented the book as a playbook for navigating turbulent times, emphasising the importance of anticipation, clear communication, and continuous learning.

He expressed that the book would have been useful before COVID-19 19 but believes Nigerians exhibited crisis leadership skills during the pandemic.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by prominent figures including Atedo Peterside (market-enabling policy), Timi Alaibe (reform discipline), George Etomi (rule of law), Amaju Pinnick (sports industry), Jean Chiazor, SAN (maritime safety), Mrs. Wunmi Eniola-Jegedee (crisis leadership in logistics), and Dele Momodu (culture and nation-branding).

Chudi Offodile, representing NIMASA DG Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strong leadership standards.

Dr. Peterside dedicated the books to Nigeria’s “doers” – public servants, entrepreneurs, and educators who remain committed to building a better nation.

He stated that “Beneath the Surface asks us to think harder, while Leading in a Storm shows us how to act better.

Together, they invite us to rebuild—one policy, one institution, one community at a time.”
