Okpoama Beach Carnival Earns Global Acclaim, Boosted By Star Performances
The Okpoama International Beach Carnival, held recently on Brass Island, has garnered significant praise for its growing global appeal and contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Former Bayelsa State Governor and Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, lauded the event, highlighting the performances of renowned artists like Patoranking and Nyanya, alongside promising local acts Spiro and others.
Sylva described the carnival as a spectacle of “beautiful sights and sounds,” praising the opportunity it provided for both established and emerging Nigerian musical talent to share the stage.
He specifically noted the deliberate effort to elevate indigenous artists by featuring them alongside internationally recognized stars.
“The best of our country’s musical talents performed and enjoyed the ambience of Brass Island,” Sylva stated.
“Indigenous musical prospects were given the chance to perform alongside internationally recognised stars in a deliberate act of raising their stock.
Ultimately, the dream of making Okpoama a proper globally recognized tourism destination is in sight.”
The Okpoama International Beach Carnival, a yearly event organised by Sylva’s team and associates, including Kojo Sam, has a history of attracting major musical and comedy acts.
Past performers have included A-list stars like Timaya, Davido, Wizkid, and Tiwa Savage.
The carnival consistently draws large crowds of both local residents and tourists from across the country and beyond, providing a platform to showcase Bayelsa’s hospitality and unique culinary offerings. This year’s event was masterfully coordinated by MC Senibo.
The success of the 2025 carnival further solidifies Okpoama and Brass Island’s position as a burgeoning tourist destination, promising continued growth and recognition on the global stage.
