Beyond the competitive spirit, the championship emphasised building sportsmanship, mutual respect, and personal transformation through the game of chess.

More than just a tournament, the programme delivered comprehensive training. Over 100 prisoners and officers participated in workshops, acquiring valuable life skills through the strategic thinking and problem-solving inherent in chess.

The initiative also led to the establishment of a prison chess club, boasting over 200 members, fostering community building and shared learning among inmates and staff.

The programme’s impact extends to rehabilitation efforts. By focusing on cognitive development and positive reinforcement, the championship strengthens the NCoS’s commitment to meaningful rehabilitation, according to organizers.
