300 Youths Graduate From Obosi Skills Acquisition Programme

Obosi, Anambra State – Over 300 youths recently graduated from the first phase of the Obosi Skills Acquisition, Empowerment, and Palliatives (OBISEP) project, a community initiative similar to the state government’s “One Youth, Two Skills” program.

The graduation ceremony, titled “Obosi 1 Household, 2 Skills,” was a significant milestone for the 700 participants who had initially enrolled in 31 different skill-based training programs.

The Obosi Development Union (ODU) is spearheading the project, which aims to empower underprivileged youth while also fostering economic growth in the community.

Chisom T. Onugha, Chairman of the ODU Skills Acquisition Empowerment and Palliatives Committee, emphasized the initiative’s goal of providing economic opportunities for underprivileged people.

He praised Governor Soludo’s “One Youth, Two Skills” initiative, describing the Obosi program as a grassroots model for rapid human and community development.

He urged other communities to follow the “One Household, Two Skills” model and requested additional assistance from the state government.

Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, Anambra’s Commissioner for Youth Development, emphasized the program’s timeliness, which is consistent with the state government’s focus on youth empowerment.

He emphasized the importance of Public-Private Community Partnerships (PPCP) in combating youth unemployment and crime, recognizing that the government cannot address these issues alone.

The Commissioner expressed the state government’s willingness to work with the Obosi community to ensure the program’s ongoing success.

Barr. Chimezie Obi, President General of the ODU, described the event as a graduation ceremony for around 300 trainees, emphasizing the project’s goal of mainstreaming the state government’s initiatives at the grassroots level.

Major General Emeka Maduegbunam (rtd), represented by Engr Chinedum Iweka, praised the initiative for diverting youths away from crime and providing them with valuable vocational training.

The skills taught included industrial house wiring, cosmetology, catering and confectioneries, fashion design, veterinary and poultry farming, computer technology, plumbing, beauty care, solar and CCTV installations, and more.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Obosi Palace Administrative Secretary, Mr Okenwa Shadrach, as well as community leaders and representatives.

The successful completion of the first phase of OBISEP represents a promising step toward empowering Obosi’s youth and bolstering the community’s economy.
