KADUNA, NIGERIA – The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has sharply continued to criticise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the apparent exclusion of Christians from the newly appointed Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC).

In a statement released Saturday, the group accused the President of contradicting his own stated commitment to inclusivity and fair representation.

NCYP Chairman Isaac Abrak stated that the omission of any known Christian from the 11-member board is “a clear departure from the President’s claim of leadership based on inclusivity, fair representation, and equality.”

The group expressed deep disappointment and concern, calling the appointments a “grave oversight” that undermines the commission’s credibility and potential effectiveness.

Abrak further urged the Senate to reject the current nominations, arguing that proceeding with the inauguration would perpetuate the exclusion of Christians and potentially ignite religious tension in a region striving for peace and stability after years of insecurity.

“This is not just about representation; it’s about ensuring the commission’s acceptability and its ability to deliver on its mandate,” Abrak emphasised.

He stressed the importance of reflecting the diverse religious landscape of the North West region within the commission’s leadership structure.

The NCYP, which actively supported President Tinubu’s election campaign, appealed to him to reconsider the appointments and include Christians on the board.

The group warned that failing to address this imbalance could hinder the region’s progress and urged the President to take “prompt action” to rectify the situation.

They concluded by reiterating their belief that inclusive representation is vital for the NWDC’s success and the continued growth of the North West region.
