IGP Orders Investigation Into Anambra Man’s Alleged Criminal Activities In Delta State
By Chuks Eke
Asaba, Delta State – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered a discreet investigation into serious allegations levelled against Chinedu Okeke (aka Ekwe Ogidi), an Anambra State indigene, by residents of Ogbe-Ozoma quarters in Okpanam, Delta State.
The allegations, detailed in a strongly worded petition, include conspiracy, malicious damage, murder, terrorism, unlawful possession of firearms, gun running, and land grabbing.
The directive, contained in a letter (Ref No. CB: 7000/IGP, SEC/ABJ/VOL.757 CP/69, dated October 21, 2024) signed by CP Johnson Adenola, Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, mandates the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) and the Delta State Commissioner of Police to consolidate all ongoing investigations into the matter.
The outcome of this consolidated investigation will determine further police action.
The petition, submitted by the legal counsel of Ogbe-Ozoma quarters – G.T. Adegbite Esq., Boulevard Aladetoyinbo Esq., and Michael Oluyide Esq. of Justice Attorneys Chambers – accuses Okeke and his alleged gang of terrorising the community through criminal trespass, property destruction, murder, and other violent crimes.
The petition, also copied to the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the National Assembly, alleges police corruption, claiming that some officers have been compromised and are actively hindering the investigation.
The land grabbers, according to the petition, boast of high-level police connections.
The Ogbe-Ozoma community, in a separate letter of appreciation to the IGP, expressed relief and gratitude for the prompt intervention.
Signed by Chief Felix Okafor, Sunday Nwanze, Lucky Abuah, and Chinedu Ofuani on behalf of the community, the letter hailed the IGP’s proactive approach in addressing the situation and expressed hope that the investigation will expose the perpetrators and bring an end to the violence.
The community expressed disbelief that previous investigations into serious crimes, including alleged murders and attacks on police officers, had not yielded results.
They highlighted the crucial role of police corruption in allowing these crimes to persist. The community leaders specifically condemned the actions of “bad eggs” within the police force who they allege have aided and abetted the land grabbers.
The IGP’s intervention is seen as a critical step towards restoring peace and justice to the community.
