Zulum Approves N730 Million Scholarship For Borno State Students
Maiduguri, Borno State – Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has demonstrated his commitment to education by approving over N730 million in scholarships for Borno indigenes studying in various institutions across Nigeria.
The funds, representing a significant investment in human capital development, were officially handed over to the Borno State Scholarship Board by the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe.
Wakilbe announced that the scholarship scheme will benefit 26,888 undergraduate students, with payments commencing immediately.
He highlighted the substantial investment in education this year alone, revealing that the Zulum administration has already spent over N8 billion on scholarships for students both within and outside Nigeria in 2024.
The commissioner provided a detailed breakdown of the scholarship allocations (although specifics were not provided in the release) and urged recipients to maintain high academic standards to justify the government’s investment.
He stressed the importance of accurate bank details, warning that failed payments due to incorrect information would be reallocated.
Wakilbe also encouraged students to explore additional funding opportunities through NELFUND (presumably an acronym for a scholarship or loan program) and challenged student leaders to maximize the available resources.
The National President of the National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS), Abdullahi Umara, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Zulum for his consistent support of education.
The students’ appreciation was further underscored by Abba Gana, a student present at the handover ceremony, who announced plans to bestow honorary titles upon Governor Zulum (“Student-Friendly Governor”) and Commissioner Wakilbe (“Architect of Modern Education”) in recognition of their contributions.
This initiative reflects the widespread impact of the governor’s scholarship program on the lives of Borno State students.
