Igbo Leaders Demand Kanu’s Release, Southeast Development From Tinubu
Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), a Non-Governmental organisation, NGO has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, to restore peace in the Southeast region.
NUF said the clarion call became imperative following the persistent sit-at-home practice going on every Monday, which has some negative impacts on the people and huge losses on their businesses as the majority. Traders.
NUF, in its press statement issued yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra state, lamented that Ndigbo lost huge amounts of money in billions of naira and also deprived our children of education, thereby taking us backward academically.
In the statement jointly signed by its President, Augustine Chukwudum and it’s Secretary-General, Tony Igbokwe, NUF declared: “today, it is no longer a news that Southeast geo-poliitical zone, the most peaceful.region in the country is facing so much trouble and challenges since the arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, despite all the appeals made to former President Muhammadu Buhari by elder statemen like late Chief Mbazulike Amechi, Late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, Late Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife and other promient igbo sons and daughters whose calls fells on deaf ears”.
The statement further declared: “NUF hereby mandates all the Southeast Governors, Southeast Senators, Southeast House of Representatives and 10 prominent traditional rulers from Southeast and late ikemba Nnewi Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s wife, Binaca Ojokwu,Senator Uche Ekwunife (IYOM) and other four prominent Umu Ada Igbo from Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Enugu States to meet with Mr. President and get Kanu released to reduce all the actorcities going on in the region”
“NUF is also calling on Southeast Governors to work assiduously towards the development of the zone which they said is lacking basic amenities of life for the past 25 years of civil rule, excluding former Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state who transformed the state into a Paris of Africa”.
“We also call on the present Governors to improve on security in the zone and start with immediate effect harnessing Agricultural sector because the zone is so much blessed with arable lands for farming, but because of lack of vision on the side of our governors and overdependent on federal government’s monthly allocations, Southeast loses $10 billions US Dollars yearly due to negligence on Agric sector”.
