Szoboszlai: Liverpool’s Resilience Key To Southampton Victory
Southampton, England – Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai lauded his team’s character after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday.
The Reds overcame a second-half deficit to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points.
Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a superb curler, capitalizing on Southampton’s attempts to play out from the back.
“That was our plan,” he explained. “We pressed well, forcing them into mistakes. If one player starts the press, the others follow, and that’s how I got the goal.”
However, Southampton fought back, with goals from Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes turning the game on its head before the hour mark.
Szoboszlai acknowledged the challenge: “They are a very good team, and scoring two goals is a setback.
The biggest question is how you react. We showed today, not for the first time, that we can still win even when behind.”
Mohamed Salah proved instrumental in the comeback, scoring the equaliser and then converting a penalty to secure the three points.
Szoboszlai praised the Egyptian’s continued impact: “He’s been doing this for eight years.
He’s incredible; his runs, goals, assists, and work rate. Everyone appreciates him.”
Despite the commanding lead at the top of the table, Szoboszlai stressed the importance of maintaining focus: “Last year, I spoke too much about hypotheticals. Now it’s game by game.
We are eight points clear, but the season is long. We have to focus on ourselves.”
He concluded, “We answered another question today – we just have to keep going.”
