Lokoja, Kogi State – The Honourable Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, penned a moving tribute Friday, November 22nd, marking the ninth anniversary of his father, the late Prince Abubakar Audu’s death.

Describing his father’s passing as an “unprecedented event in the history of the political landscape in Nigeria,” the Minister reflected on his father’s legacy and impact on Kogi State and the nation.

In a statement released on behalf of the Audu family, Prince Shuaibu recalled the day of his father’s death, November 22nd, 2015, a day of immense sorrow following the abrupt end to celebrations surrounding his imminent victory in the Kogi State Gubernatorial elections.

The Minister described his father as “a remarkable statesman, a visionary politician, who laid a solid foundation for Kogites,” highlighting his lasting contributions to the state.

He pointed to the growth of institutions like Prince Abubakar Audu University (formerly Kogi State University), Kogi State Polytechnic, and the College of Education, Ankpa, all established or significantly expanded under his father’s leadership.

Further examples cited included the Eye Specialist Hospital in Ogbonicha and infrastructure projects like the Commissioners’ Quarters and the House of Assembly Complex in Lokoja.

Prince Shuaibu also emphasized his father’s character, describing him as “a man of principle, integrity, and compassion,” whose ability to connect with people from all walks of life profoundly influenced his own life and public service.

He connected his service under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to his father’s teachings, expressing confidence in the President’s “Renewed Hope” agenda to transform Nigeria’s economy.

The tribute concluded with a poignant message: “Though you are no longer physically present, your spirit lives on in the hearts of Kogites and Nigerians. Continue to Rest in Peace, Daddy.”
