Police Confirm Attack On Hon. Onwusibe’s Convoy, One Officer Killed
Umuahia, Abia State – The Abia State Police Command has confirmed an attack on the convoy of Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, a member of the House of Representatives, resulting in the death of one police officer.
In a press statement released this morning by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen C. Chinaka, the command detailed the incident, which occurred on November 17th at approximately 8:30 PM.
Two Special Protection Unit (SPU) officers, Inspector Dunna Jatau and Inspector Bala Mohammed, were ambushed near the Umuahia South Local Government Area Secretariat in Ubakala while returning from escorting Hon. Onwusibe.
According to the statement, the officers were travelling in a police Toyota Hilux when their vehicle was intercepted by armed assailants in a tinted Toyota Corolla.
The attackers, dressed in black, opened fire, fatally wounding Inspector Bala Mohammed. Inspector Jatau and the driver escaped with their lives.
The police immediately launched a comprehensive search operation and deployed tactical teams to track down the fleeing suspects. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
ASP Chinaka emphasised the Abia State Police Command’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
She urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
The statement concluded with a call for the public to remain calm and security conscious.
