Peter Obi Celebrates Nigerian Men On International Men’s Day, Highlights Hardships Faced
Abuja, Nigeria – Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, used his X (formerly Twitter) handle today to mark International Men’s Day, offering a message of support and hope to Nigerian men amidst challenging economic and social conditions.
Obi acknowledged the “unwavering strength” of Nigerian men in the face of current difficulties, praising their “continuous selfless contributions” to national growth.
However, he painted a stark picture of the struggles faced by the average Nigerian man, highlighting the pervasive hardship and lack of opportunity.
“Being a Nigerian man myself,” Obi wrote, “I clearly understand the painful struggles our men go through to fend for their families and the many obstacles they face in trying to actualise their dreams in a country that seems to offer little hope for their future due to leadership failure.”
Obi cited the widespread hunger and insecurity plaguing the nation, emphasizing the burden on men to provide for and protect their families in a climate of poor healthcare.
He referenced National Bureau of Statistics data indicating a life expectancy of just 55.1 years for Nigerian men, significantly lower than the global average of 70 years. This, he argued, reflects the immense stress and hardship endured daily.
Despite this challenging reality, Obi concluded his message with a note of optimism and resilience. He urged Nigerian men to “Endure and persevere.
Do not lose hope; hold on strong,” emphasizing the collective nature of the struggle and reiterating his belief in the possibility of a “New Nigeria.”
His post concluded with the hashtag #POssible, a common slogan associated with his political campaign.
