Nigerian Red Cross Highlights Achievements, Charts Future Course In Humanitarian Report
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has released its annual Humanitarian Report, showcasing a year of significant achievements and outlining its strategic direction for the future.
The report, themed “Reflection, Resilience, and Recommitment to Humanitarian Service,” was unveiled at the NRCS Annual General Meeting in Abuja.
President of the NRCS, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, lauded the collective efforts that contributed to the organization’s successes. The report detailed a range of impactful initiatives, including:
Extensive Flood Relief: In response to devastating floods across several states, including Adamawa, Anambra, Oyo, Kebbi, Kogi, and Rivers, the NRCS, partnering with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, provided vital food aid and constructed 12 water boreholes, benefiting thousands of families.
Further flood relief efforts in Maiduguri, Borno State, saw the NRCS raise ₦6.7 million in three weeks and distribute aid worth ₦100,000 to 1,850 affected households.
Proactive MPOX Preparedness: The NRCS collaborated with the Norwegian Red Cross and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to launch a Training of Trainers (ToT) program, bolstering the nation’s preparedness for the MPOX outbreak that affected 26 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Hunger Crisis Response: A ₦2.5 billion fundraising campaign to combat hunger and malnutrition, although not fully funded, forged vital partnerships that will underpin future humanitarian efforts.
Youth Empowerment: The inaugural NRCS International Youth Camp in Agbor, Delta State, demonstrated the organization’s commitment to fostering the next generation of humanitarian leaders. Delta State Governor, Elder Sherriff Oborevwori, officially opened the camp, underscoring the importance of youth empowerment.
Looking ahead, the NRCS recognizes the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, health emergencies, and disaster management.
The organization plans to leverage innovation and strengthen its networks to better serve vulnerable communities.
“Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation,” stated Prince Adeaga. “To our donors and supporters, thank you for believing in our mission.
“Together, we will continue to serve humanity with dignity, efficiency, and compassion.”
The NRCS reaffirmed its commitment to its core principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
The report concluded with a pledge to amplify its humanitarian impact in 2025 and beyond.
