NDDC Urges Women To Actively Participate In Niger Delta Development

Akure, Ondo State – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a strong call for increased female participation in the development of the Niger Delta region.

This call came during a commemoration of International Women’s Day, held in Akure, Ondo State, and reported in a press statement released today by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs.

Over 200 women from across Ondo State attended the event, themed “The Role of Women in Sustainable Development.”

Hon. Ifedayo Abegunge, NDDC Executive Director of Corporate Services, highlighted the crucial role women play in fostering sustainable development.

He emphasised the need for collaborative efforts between men and women to build a prosperous society.

Hon. Abegunde stressed the inclusive nature of sustainable development, urging participants to actively contribute to achieving common goals.

He stated that a shared sense of ownership, fostered by collective participation, is crucial for the long-term success of development initiatives.

He further emphasised the complementary roles of both men and women in achieving a prosperous future for the Niger Delta.

The event offered a platform for women to network, share ideas, and develop actionable strategies to enhance their contributions to the development of Ondo State and the broader Niger Delta region.

Speakers at the event highlighted the significant influence of women in grassroots development.

Mrs. Justina Akeredolu underscored women’s central role in community development initiatives, emphasizing the impact of their involvement in local education, health, and economic projects.

Another speaker, Omowumi Oni, focused on the importance of women’s physical and mental health, asserting that healthier women contribute to a healthier society and stronger economy.
