Zulum Extends Flood Relief Disbursement Amidst Concerns Of Mismanagement!
Maiduguri, Borno State: Governor Babagana Zulum has sparked controversy by extending the deadline for the distribution of flood relief materials to victims in Maiduguri and its surrounding areas.
The decision, announced by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Mallam Bukar Tijani, comes amidst growing concerns about the effectiveness and transparency of the relief efforts.
The Borno State Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee, responsible for managing the relief funds, was initially set to conclude its work this week.
However, Governor Zulum’s four-week extension has raised eyebrows, with some speculating that it is a sign of a lack of progress or potential mismanagement of resources.
While the SSG maintains that the extension is necessary for a “more thorough assessment of the victims,” critics argue that the disbursement committee has had ample time to assess the needs of the affected communities.
The interim report, submitted to the governor, only highlights “substantial progress,” leaving many wondering about the extent of the actual relief efforts.
The extension comes as the state capital and its surrounding areas grapple with the devastating aftermath of the floods, which have resulted in widespread destruction, loss of lives, and displacement of thousands.
With the deadline extended, questions remain about the efficiency and accountability of the disbursement process, leaving many flood victims anxiously awaiting the promised relief.
