Gregory University Founder Hails Conversion Of Achara Uturu Health Centre To FMC Umuahia Annex
Uturu, Abia State: Professor Gregory Ibe (Enyi Abia), and Founder of Gregory University Uturu, has expressed his delight at the federal government’s approval to upgrade and convert the Achara Uturu Community Health Centre into annexenex of the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.
This development, according to Prof. Ibe, marks a significant step towards his vision of bringing tertiary health services closer to the people.
Prof. Ibe attributed the success of the project to the efforts of Hon. Amobi Ogah, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control.
He acknowledged Ogah’s instrumental role in facilitating the approval.
“This milestone aligns with my long-held vision of bringing critical tertiary health interventions closer to our people, a dream I embarked on with the establishment of Gregory University Specialist Hospital many years ago,” stated Prof. Ibe.
He revealed that he had previously attempted to secure partnerships with past Abia state administrations for the conversion of the facility into a secondary health institution.
However, he expressed his joy at Ogah’s ability to achieve this landmark feat.
“I am thus delighted that my younger brother has been able to achieve this milestone,” he said.
Prof. Ibe believes that the conversion of the health centre will bring significant benefits to Uturu, Isuikwuato, Umunneochi, and the entire Abia North Senatorial Zone.
He anticipates positive impacts on the health and well-being of the community.
This development is expected to improve healthcare access for residents of the region, reducing the need for long journeys to Umuahia for advanced medical treatment.
The conversion is also expected to stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities in the area.
