PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA – Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), has slammed recent comments by Tony Okocha, describing them as the ramblings of a “psychiatric patient.”

Okocha, a controversial figure in Rivers State politics, claimed that 27 former lawmakers who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC had not actually joined the party and that the move was merely a political gimmick.
But Eze, who was present at the defection ceremony, vehemently refuted Okocha’s claims, calling them “falsehoods” and “lies.”

“The fact that Okocha was equally present at the official defection, which was covered by notable media houses, and yet tags the flaw a political gimmick, goes to show the depth of horrible damage that has been done to the fabrics of Nigeria by politics and the band of cheating by players of the game,” stated Eze in a press release.

The APC chieftain also expressed disappointment with Okocha’s history of electoral manipulation and corruption, referencing his previous boasts about manipulating election results and receiving an appointment with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) despite his alleged lack of integrity.

Eze further condemned Okocha and Chibuike Ikenga, a former spokesperson for the Rivers APC caretaker committee, for continuing to issue press statements using the party’s letterhead, despite a court ruling that they should be barred from doing so.

“It is morally corrupt and pricks the human conscience to hear Chibuike Ikenga, an ousted Spokesperson to the Kangaroo Rivers APC caretaker committee still speak from his ousted position to ask Governor Fubara to abide by the court judgement and reconcile with Wike or face embarrassment,” Eze said.

In light of the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, Eze called for a by-election to fill the vacancies created by the defections, urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara to detach the state from “marauding plunderers” and restore its lost glory.

“With the level of moral decadence in display, particularly on the Rivers Political playground, Eze said the likes of Wike, Okocha, Ikenga, the 27 peo-Wike former Lawmakers, and their irks would have been banned from holding public office if the Nigerian Society were a sane one,” concluded the press release.
