Cross River, University Of Calabar Forge Deeper Partnership To Empower Youth
Calabar, THE NEWSHAUS – Mr. Maurice Inok, Special Adviser on Intergovernmental Affairs, recently met with Professor Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), to strengthen ties between the state government and one of its leading academic institutions.
The meeting focused on His Excellency Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, implementing his “PEOPLE’S FIRST AGENDA.”
During the meeting, there were several key areas of focus:
Expanding access to quality education for Cross Riverians: The government and UNICAL aim to collaborate on increasing accessibility to affordable higher education for students in rural areas, leveraging digital education and other innovative 21st-century strategies.
Combating youth restiveness and promoting social well-being: Joint initiatives will focus on curbing issues like drug abuse, cultism, and immorality among young people.
The plan includes engaging youth through educational and social activities to foster a more secure and productive environment.
Enhanced information dissemination: The meeting saw a commitment to leveraging Unical Radio International to disseminate information on the progress made by the Otu administration to the university community and the wider public.
Professor Obi, in response to the proposed initiatives, reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the “PEOPLE’S FIRST AGENDA.” She pledged to use her office and collaborate with the state government to increase the number of Cross Riverians benefitting from educational opportunities at UNICAL.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced plans for a series of educational and social events designed to keep returning students actively engaged and thus mitigate potential unrest.
Furthermore, she emphasized the role of Unical Radio International in promoting the achievements of the Otu administration to the university community and beyond.
“We commend His Excellency for his pragmatic approach to governance and wish him continued success,” stated Professor Obi.
The CEO of Unical Radio International, Dr. Elihu Osim, participated in the discussions, solidifying the radio station’s role in facilitating communication and information dissemination within the proposed partnership.
The meeting signifies a strong commitment from both the Cross River State Government and UNICAL to work collaboratively towards a more inclusive, secure, and prosperous future for the state’s youth.
