Imo Govt Denies Fake News Claiming Supreme Court Judge Disowned Uzodimma’s Victory
Owerri, Imo State – The Imo State government has strongly refuted a recent wave of fake news circulating online that alleges a Supreme Court judge has apologised for her role in a 2019 ruling that reinstated Governor Hope Uzodimma.
In a statement released today, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, described the claim as “puerile, ludicrous, and irresponsible.”
Emelumba, who vehemently denied the existence of any such apology, pointed out that the fake news lacks any credibility, failing to mention the name of the judge, the location, or the specific event where the supposed apology was made.
He accused the opposition of resorting to “satanic missions” to discredit Governor Uzodimma, highlighting their repeated failures in previous attempts.
The commissioner further emphasised that the opposition has repeatedly lost against Uzodimma at the polls, both in the 2019 Supreme Court judgment and the 2020 governorship election, where he won all 27 local government areas.
He accused them of living in denial and urged them to accept defeat.
Emelumba also blamed the social media for enabling the spread of these unsubstantiated claims, calling for accountability and adherence to journalistic ethics.
He assured the public that no judge involved in the ruling has ever disowned it.
The Imo State government attributed the ongoing smear campaign against Governor Uzodimma to the fear of his growing national political visibility, which overshadows the opposition’s regional standing.
Despite these distractions, the government affirmed its commitment to delivering good governance and fulfilling its national responsibilities.
