Obi Condoles With Jigawa Over Tanker Tragedy, Calls For Action On Violence In Anambra
Dutse/Awka, THE NEWSHAUS– Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi in 2023 election has condemned the recent tragedies in Jigawa and Anambra States, urging government action to prevent further occurrences.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, Obi expressed deep sorrow over the death of over 180 people in a petroleum tanker explosion in Dutse, Jigawa State.
The incident, which also left over 80 injured, mainly young people in their productive years, was described by Obi as a national tragedy.
Obi pledged to donate to the victims and commended the Jigawa State government for their efforts in alleviating the suffering of the injured.
He also urged tanker drivers to exercise caution and called on all levels of government to provide livelihood opportunities for the people, preventing them from engaging in dangerous activities.
“The frequency of tragedies in our nation is a concerning issue,” Obi stated, highlighting the need for God’s intervention and government action.
He emphasised the importance of infrastructure development and enacting laws to prevent such incidents in the future.
“Tragedies occur when necessary human action is not adequately taken to mitigate misfortune,” he concluded.
Earlier, Obi expressed outrage over the killing of 16 young men in Nibo, Anambra State.
He condemned the act as “senseless” and a “stark reminder of the escalating violence plaguing our communities.”
“This despicable act is not only a profound loss to their families, but also a stark reminder of the escalating violence that continues to plague our communities,” Obi said.
He called for swift action from the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such incidents are never repeated.
Obi extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Nibo community, the Government of Anambra State, and all those affected by the tragedy.
He called for a nation where safety and justice prevail over violence and lawlessness.
Obi’s statements come amid growing concerns over insecurity and violence across Nigeria. His calls for government action and his commitment to assisting victims of these tragedies are likely to resonate with many Nigerians.
