Peter Obi Champions Education, Pledges Support For Two Enugu Schools
ENUGU, THE NEWSHAUS – Presidential candidate of the Labour Party and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to quality education for all, advocating for increased investment and community participation in educational development.
Obi made these remarks during visits to two Enugu schools yesterday. He began his day at the newly opened Araceli Aid Foundation Academy in Awkunanaw, a school dedicated to providing free and affordable education to underprivileged children.
The academy, founded by American philanthropist Anne Rossmeier, seeks to improve educational opportunities and living conditions for the less fortunate in Nigerian society.
“Quality education is not just a right, but a currency for future opportunities,” Obi emphasized, praising the Araceli Aid Foundation for its impactful work.
He personally pledged to contribute to the academy’s mission by sponsoring indigent students, further demonstrating his dedication to supporting educational access for all.
Obi commended the foundation’s scholarship program, which currently benefits 50% of the academy’s students, highlighting its crucial role in enabling children from marginalised backgrounds to reach their full potential.
Later in the day, Obi visited Queen School Enugu, a renowned girls’ school celebrating its 70th anniversary. The school, known for its commitment to empowering young women, has fostered generations of successful and responsible leaders.
Obi expressed his admiration for the school’s dedication to girls’ education, acknowledging their significant contributions to society.
However, he also raised concerns about the school’s infrastructural needs, emphasising the urgent need for support.
Addressing the Old Girls Association of Queen’s School, Obi urged them to “do more in supporting their alma mater with its many needs,” proposing a 5-year project plan to address the school’s infrastructure deficit.
He pledged his personal support for the initiative, stating his willingness to partner with the Old Girls in rebuilding dilapidated structures.
“These seeds of educational investments we have continued to sow across the country will continue to germinate into greater development and productivity for the nation,” Obi concluded, reaffirming his commitment to building a “New Nigeria” with a strong emphasis on education and empowerment.
Obi’s visits to both schools highlight his focus on the transformative power of education and his dedication to ensuring access to quality education for all Nigerians, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
His calls for community involvement and private sector investment underscore his belief in a collaborative approach to addressing Nigeria’s educational challenges.
