ECOWAS Court Of Justice, Commission Strengthen Cooperation In Push For Regional Integration
ABUJA, THE NEWSHAUS – In a bid to strengthen collaboration and promote greater synergy for regional integration, the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Hon. Justice Ricardo Claudio Monteiro Gonçalves, accompanied by Vice-President Hon. Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Omar Alieu Tourey, on Thursday.
The meeting, as outlined in a statement, aimed to consolidate ties between the two institutions, highlighting their critical roles in the advancement of the ECOWAS community.
President Tourey welcomed the initiative and warmly congratulated the Court’s new management on their election, emphasising the importance of close collaboration. “It is a pleasure to meet you immediately after your election,” he said.
“We are delighted to congratulate you and to explore ways in which we can work more closely together as institutions of the community.”
He further emphasised the vital role the Court plays in upholding justice for ECOWAS citizens, stating,
“The Court represents the last resort for citizens dissatisfied with the solutions offered by national courts.”
He expressed gratitude for the Court’s crucial contributions to upholding justice within the community.
In response, President Gonçalves reiterated the Court’s commitment to close cooperation with the Commission for the benefit of the ECOWAS community.
“Since our election, we have undertaken a series of visits to community institutions to introduce the new leadership of the Court and to strengthen our collaboration,” he stated.
“We are determined to work together to strengthen the Court and contribute to the development of our region.”
Vice-President Koroma further stressed the significance of this collaboration for the next two years, stating, “Through enhanced cooperation, we can continue to build a strong and united community, for the benefit of the citizens of the Member States.”
This visit, part of a series of meetings initiated by the new Court of Justice leadership, aims to promote close collaboration with ECOWAS institutions and foster regional integration for the harmonious development of the community.
The meeting serves as a positive step towards achieving the goals of a united and prosperous ECOWAS region.
