The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, emphasised the crucial role of women in propelling Nigeria’s economic growth. She described them as drivers of innovation, social change, and sustainable development.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the Abuja Business and Investment Summit, Mahmoud called on stakeholders to support women entrepreneurs in overcoming significant barriers to success.

“Empowering women entrepreneurs is not just a matter of equity; it is an economic imperative,” Mahmoud emphasised.

She pointed out that despite the potential of women in business, they continue to face challenges such as limited access to financing, mentorship, and societal constraints.

Mahmoud also acknowledged that women-owned businesses, which make up about 41% of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria according to the World Bank, tend to be more socially responsible and have a profound impact on their communities.

“Women are breaking barriers in technology, agriculture, manufacturing, and services. Their contributions are as diverse as they are impactful,” she noted.
