Abuja, Nigeria – Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns over President Tinubu’s prolonged absence from the country, coinciding with a period of immense hardship and pressing domestic issues.

In a statement posted on his verified X handle, Obi expressed concern about the President’s decision to remain in Paris, France, rather than attend a two-day working visit to Sweden, which is a mere 833 nautical miles away.

Obi argued that, with his “new powerful jet,” President Tinubu could have easily made the short trip from Paris to Stockholm, saving time and scarce national resources.

“Instead, he delegated the Vice President to travel over 3055 nautical miles from Abuja to Stockholm, a journey that takes about four times the time and distance compared to Paris.

“This does not represent the kind of fiscal responsibility and common sense that is expected of leaders whose people are facing severe hunger and poverty,” Obi asserted.

He further criticised the President for his extended stay abroad, particularly given the pressing issues facing Nigeria.

Obi emphasised the importance of “true and committed leadership” that prioritises the people’s well-being and efficient management of scarce resources during this difficult time.

The statement comes as Nigerians grapple with economic hardship, fuel shortages, and escalating insecurity. President Tinubu’s prolonged absence, coupled with the travel decisions, has fueled public criticism and amplified calls for a more focused and responsive approach to addressing the nation’s challenges.
