Red Cross Equips Journalists With Life-Saving Skills In Calabar
Calabar, Nigeria – The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has empowered 25 journalists in Cross River State with essential First Aid skills during a three-day training workshop.
The initiative, supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), aimed to equip media professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to handle emergencies effectively, particularly those encountered in the line of duty.
The training, held at the Metropolitan Hotel in Calabar, covered a range of critical First Aid techniques, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), wound management, and fracture treatment.
Participants engaged in hands-on learning, gaining practical experience in handling various emergency situations.
Mr. Eni Joseph, Branch Secretary of the NRCS in Cross River State, highlighted the vital importance of First Aid knowledge for journalists, emphasising the inherent risks associated with their profession.
“The primary goal of First Aid is to save lives and facilitate swift recovery,” he stated. “Journalists often find themselves in unpredictable situations, and this training equips them with the skills to respond effectively.”
The training was led by First Aid Trainer Daniel Edobor, who emphasized the importance of basic skills such as placing casualties in recovery positions, controlling bleeding, and safely transporting injured individuals to medical facilities.
Upon successful completion of the interactive training, each of the 25 journalists received a certified First Aid kit and certificate, recognizing their newly acquired life-saving skills.
The initiative underscores the NRCS’s commitment to promoting public safety and empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools to handle emergency situations effectively.
