NDCCITMA: A New Era Of Socio-Economic Development In The Niger Delta
Asaba, Delta State – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has taken a significant step towards boosting economic growth in the region with the launch of the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines, and Agriculture (NDCCITMA).
The new Chamber, hailed by Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as a “laudable initiative,” aims to connect businesses and companies, thereby accelerating socio-economic development in the region.
Governor Oborevwori, speaking through the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Sonny Ekedayen, at a sensitisation workshop in Asaba, emphasised the importance of collaboration between the NDDC and the NDCCITMA.
He highlighted that this partnership would be crucial in addressing issues of mutual interest and fostering a more dynamic approach to regional development.
“The national economic crisis has compelled us to rethink the processes of governance, public spending and alternative income generation,” said Governor Oborevwori.
“Through the establishment of the NDCCITMA, we will be able to identify areas of cooperation among states and formulate a policy template that will engender the promotion and growth of micro-small and medium enterprises, which are the engine of economic growth in any society.”
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of NDDC, represented by Mr. Onoriode Omo-Udoyo, Director of the Delta State office, emphasised the Chamber’s role as a bridge between the Commission and entrepreneurs.
He urged the people of the region to take advantage of the NDCCITMA to grow their businesses, adding that all contractors working with the NDDC are required to register with the Chamber.
Dr Godwin Nosiri, representing the NDDC Executive Director, Projects, and Chairman of the Implementation Committee, further clarified that the NDCCITMA was established to nurture the growth of businesses from nano to small and medium-scale enterprises.
The launch of the NDCCITMA marks a significant step towards addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by the Niger Delta region.
With the support of both the NDDC and the participating state governments, the Chamber is poised to play a crucial role in fostering sustainable development and economic prosperity in the region.
