Sokoto State, Federal Government Collaborate To Enhance Security With New NAF Base
SOKOTO, NIGERIA– In a move aimed at strengthening national security, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, and the Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, jointly inspected the ongoing construction of a new Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base in the state.
According to a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of information and public relations of the ministry, the visit underlined the Federal Government’s commitment to combatting insecurity in the North-West region.
Dr. Matawalle praised the NAF’s dedication and assured the force of continued governmental support, stating, “The Nigerian Air Force continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding our nation.
“The Federal Government will ensure you have all the necessary resources to maintain operational efficiency, particularly in countering security threats in the North-West.”
Governor Lawal echoed this sentiment, emphasising the state’s commitment to working alongside the Armed Forces to ensure peace and stability.
“Sokoto State stands firmly with the Armed Forces,” he stated, “We are committed to providing all necessary support to enhance security in the state and across the region.”
The Governor also specifically commended Dr. Matawalle for his leadership in addressing the security challenges facing the region.
“The Minister has shown resilience and bravery by penetrating into what used to be a ‘NO-GO AREA’ and has even reopened areas that were deserted by our people,” Governor Sokoto highlighted.
The Unit Commander briefed the dignitaries on the project’s progress. The GOC 8 Division, Brigadier General I.A Ajose, and other senior military officers were also present during the inspection.
This collaboration between the Federal Government and Sokoto State signifies a concerted effort to strengthen security infrastructure and ensure the safety of citizens in the North-West.
The new NAF base is expected to significantly enhance the NAF’s capabilities in the region, contributing to the ongoing fight against insecurity.
