NDDC Takes Action, Begins Emergency Repairs On Warri-Benin Stretch Of East-West Road

Warri, Delta State –  The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has begun emergency repairs on severely damaged sections of the vital East-West Road between Warri, Delta State, and Benin, Edo State, which is a welcome development for commuters and residents in the region.

According to a statement from Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director, Corporate Affairs, this action followed a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recognised the critical need to address the deteriorating state of this vital highway.

The repairs, which began immediately after the presidential directive, are focussing on critical areas of the road, such as Ibadulume, the Amukpe roundabout, Mosoga, and Ologbo.

The NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, personally oversaw the start of work, along with the Executive Director, Projects, Sir Victor Antai, and other key officials.

Dr Ogbuku thanked President Tinubu for recognising the importance of the East-West Road and authorising the emergency repairs.

He stated, “Following the presidential directive, the NDDC has mobilised a civil engineering firm to immediately carry out remedial work.

“Our goal is to alleviate the suffering of the people, ensuring that they don’t have to endure unnecessary hardship and gridlock while the main construction work proceeds.”

The NDDC Managing Director also commended the Federal Government for responding to public concerns about the long-abandoned road project.

He expressed confidence that the completed road, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works, will be a long-lasting asset to the region.

Dr Ogbuku asked for the cooperation of community members and commuters during the repair period, emphasising that the government is committed to completing the project as soon as possible.

“We have mobilised our contractors and brought in the necessary equipment for the job,” he stated.

“We are assuring everyone that the bad sections will be fixed in a very short time. The contractor has promised to complete the work within two weeks.”

Mr Adara Opeoluwa, Managing Director of the construction firm in charge of the repairs, confirmed that the three-kilometre sections to be repaired are located at Ibadulume, the Amukpe roundabout, Mosoga, and Ologbo.

The start of these emergency repairs represents a significant step towards addressing the long-standing issue of the East-West Road’s dilapidated condition.
