Chinese Firm CMEC Donates 11 Tons Of Food To Flood-Hit Borno State
Maiduguri, Borno State – In a show of solidarity and support, the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has donated over 11 tons of food supplies to the Borno State government for distribution to victims of the recent devastating floods.
The floods, described as the worst in 30 years, submerged over half of the state capital Maiduguri and surrounding areas, leading to widespread destruction, numerous deaths, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of residents.
The donation, presented by CMEC representative Liu Shuai during a ceremony in Maiduguri, is aimed at alleviating the suffering of those affected by the disaster.
Liu emphasised the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its dedication to the well-being of local communities in Nigeria.
“As a central Chinese enterprise with a long-standing presence in the Nigerian market, CMEC has always been attentive to the livelihoods of local residents,” Liu stated.
“We immediately mobilised support for our local staff following the flood and implemented a special assistance plan for the government and flood victims.”
The company has pledged to continue its support beyond the food supplies, actively participating in post-disaster reconstruction efforts to aid Borno State in its recovery.
Governor Babagana Zulum, expressing his gratitude for CMEC’s generosity, assured the company that his administration is committed to completing post-disaster reconstruction promptly.
He specifically acknowledged the vital role of the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP) project, undertaken by CMEC, in the region’s socioeconomic development.
Governor Zulum expressed hope for future collaboration with CMEC in various development projects.
This donation serves as a poignant testament to the importance of international cooperation in times of crisis.
It also underscores the positive impact of foreign investment and the role of private companies in contributing to the well-being of local communities.
