PDP Acting Chairman Faces Backlash Over Alleged Meeting With Tinubu In London
Abuja, Nigeria – The Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Iliya Damagum, is facing growing criticism following allegations that he met with President Ahmed Tinubu in London.
The Middlebelt PDP Youth Support Group, in a statement signed by Comrade Ogwu Abel, accused Damagum of being “used by forces in the All Progressive Congress (APC) to frustrate and cause crisis in the PDP.”
The group claims Damagum has been “acting against the interest of the party” and “taking sides with the enemies of the PDP.”
They point to his perceived silence on issues affecting Nigerians and his alleged secret meeting with the President as evidence of his alleged betrayal.
“At a time Nigerians are being impoverished by the APC, he is not forthcoming on issues or taking a stand for the masses of Nigeria, which is what the PDP stands for,” the statement reads. “It is now clear why those who have practised anti-party cannot be sanctioned.
“We are calling for the removal of the acting chairman as we no longer have confidence in his leadership. We are calling on the stakeholders to act as soon as possible.”
The group expressed concern that Damagum’s alleged actions jeopardize the PDP’s chances in the 2027 elections, stating, “Nigeria is in dire need of a Messiah, and with the likes of Damagum piloting the affairs of the party, the PDP has no chances come 2027.”
Ambassador Damagum has yet to respond to these accusations. The PDP leadership is expected to address these concerns and potentially issue a statement on the matter soon.
This controversy comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal divisions and struggling to regain public trust after losing the 2023 presidential election.
