NDDC Launches Niger Delta Chamber Of Commerce, Pledges Economic Empowerment

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has taken a significant step towards empowering the region’s economy with the launch of the Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA).

The initiative, lauded by Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, aims to foster entrepreneurship and investment in the region, moving it beyond its oil-driven economy.

Governor Eno, represented by the State Commissioner for Trade and Investments, Dr. John James Etim, emphasized the alignment of the NDCCITMA with the state government’s policy of promoting entrepreneurship and investment as key drivers of economic development.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration in securing a prosperous future for the Niger Delta, emphasizing the need to explore and harness the region’s abundant natural resources, particularly in agriculture.

“We have rich agricultural produce, such as palm oil, for which we can be self-sufficient, as well as being a net-exporter,” Governor Eno stated.

NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, represented by the Akwa Ibom State representative on the NDDC Board, Pastor Abasiandikan Nkono, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to economic empowerment in the region.

He underscored the role of NDCCITMA in training aspiring entrepreneurs, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises, and providing financial support to registered businesses.

“The vision behind the establishment of NDCCITMA is in line with Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at enabling an assured future for the people,” Dr. Ogbuku asserted. He urged all Chambers of Commerce in the region to collaborate closely with NDCCITMA.

The NDDC Executive Director, Projects, Sir. Victor Antai, represented by the NDDC Director of Commercial and Industrial Development, Dr. Godwin Nosiri, highlighted the initiative’s crucial role in supporting struggling small-scale businesses and boosting nano and micro-level enterprises.

The Secretary of the NDCCITMA board, Dr. Solomon Edebiri, praised the NDDC management for recognizing the Chambers of Commerce as a valuable tool for development, encompassing all sectors, from the informal sector to large-scale businesses.

He described the successful establishment of NDCCITMA as a testament to the leadership of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

The sensitization workshop, held in Uyo, aimed to raise awareness about NDCCITMA and its vast opportunities across various economic sectors.

The NDDC has declared that it will prioritize entrepreneurs and contractors registered with NDCCITMA in its future interventions.
