By Ikechi Elenwoke*
Onireke, Lagos – The Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Onireke recently held a special ceremony to honour its patrons, recognising their significant contributions to the church and the community.
The event, which saw a large turnout of supporters from across the region, focused on celebrating High Chief Ikechi Onyemaechi, Ochiagha, and others for their unwavering commitment to God’s work and the welfare of humanity.
Engineer Uchechukwu Ukaeje, the group’s general secretary and committee chairman, expressed deep gratitude to Ochiagha and the other honorees for their consistent support of the church prayer group, including financial assistance and valuable guidance.
“Today, we gather to thank these individuals for their contributions, not only to our church but also to the broader community,” Ukaeje stated.
“Their dedication to furthering God’s work is deeply appreciated, and we are truly grateful for their commitment.”
Ochiagha, visibly humbled by the recognition, expressed his sincere appreciation for the honour bestowed upon him.
“I am deeply touched by this award,” he said. “It is truly a testament to my efforts to serve both God and my community. My family and I are immensely grateful for this recognition.”
Ochiagha further emphasised the importance of dedicating oneself to serving both God and society, underscoring that true success stems from a strong spiritual foundation.
Ochiagha also touched upon the crucial connection between the church and politics, asserting that they are inextricably intertwined.
He emphasised the importance of actively participating in the political process to shape a better society, highlighting that ignoring politics could have detrimental consequences for everyone.
“The church is the cornerstone of my life, providing both a foundation and a platform for my service,” he explained.
“To truly serve society, one must engage in politics. We must choose those who govern us. By neglecting politics, we risk compromising our well-being and the future of our communities.”
The event saw a diverse crowd of supporters, including representatives from the Lagos State female group, SME market leaders, and women and men from Lagos State and surrounding communities.
Amb. Uju Olisa, national coordinator of Bold And Treasured Elegant Ladies (BATEL), expressed gratitude for the recognition of their leader, highlighting his God-fearing nature and dedication to serving others.
The ceremony was a testament to the strong bond between the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and its patrons, emphasising the power of faith, service, and community.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of recognising those who dedicate themselves to making a positive impact on the world, both through spiritual and societal contributions.
