Nigerian Army Cracks Down On Oil Thieves, Vandals In Niger Delta, Secures Major Victories
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has delivered a series of decisive blows against oil theft and illegal bunkering operations across the Niger Delta region.
In a coordinated operation, troops have neutralized armed vandals, arrested numerous suspects, destroyed illegal refining sites, and seized vast quantities of stolen petroleum products.
The Operation Strike Force, launched following credible intelligence on an attempt to vandalize a Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) pipeline, has been highly effective in disrupting illicit activities.
Troops engaged in firefights, neutralized two armed vandals, and recovered weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, and 69 rounds of ammunition.
Extensive Seizure and Destruction: Across various locations in Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states, troops have:
Dismantled seven boats and 13 illegal refining sites.
Uncovered eight illegal connection points.
Seized over 60,000 liters of stolen petroleum products.
Confiscated two vehicles, four motorcycles, and vandalized NAOC armored cables.
Arrests and Prosecution: A total of 18 suspected oil thieves have been arrested and handed over to relevant prosecuting agencies. The confiscated petroleum products are being managed in accordance with established regulations.
Commitment to Security: Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding 6 Division, commended the troops for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the Niger Delta’s critical infrastructure. He reiterated the division’s determination to continue fighting against illegal activities in the region.
This successful operation serves as a strong message that the Nigerian Army remains resolute in its efforts to curb oil theft and protect the nation’s valuable resources.
