The Peter Obi Media Reach has responded to recent accusations leveled against their principal, Peter Obi, regarding his support for the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Edo State, Barr Olumide Akpata.

Critics have claimed that Obi’s campaigning for Akpata contradicts his stance on power rotation, arguing that Akpata’s zone is not in line with the established power rotation structure.

POMR, however, clarifies that while Obi upholds the principles of power rotation, the Labour Party in Edo State did not implement zoning for the gubernatorial position.

The delegates who elected Akpata were all Edo indigenes, and their choice was based on Akpata’s qualifications and suitability for the position.

“Obi does not trade competence and reputation for zoning,” states POMR spokesman, Ibrahim Umar.

“As a democrat, he respects the position of the majority, especially when it’s anchored on the track record of the candidate.”

Umar further emphasised that Akpata’s youthfulness and experience make him a strong candidate who resonates with the younger generation.

The statement also highlights that Obi’s campaign focus has been on issues that are vital to the progress of Edo State and Nigeria.

His decision to support Akpata stemmed from the recognition that the Labour Party candidate is the right fit for the position.

POMR dismisses the accusations as attempts to divert attention from the real issues at stake in the Edo State gubernatorial election, which place the Labour Party candidate in a favorable position.
