China Urges Developed Nations To Clean Up Their Climate Mess
Mr. Yu Dunhai, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, has urged developed countries to address the climatic challenges they have caused in developing countries, stating that they must urgently accept responsibility for international injustices, particularly those related to climate change.
He stated this in Abuja on Thursday during a “Seminar on Taking New Opportunities for China-Nigeria Cooperation in Deepening Reform in the New Era.”
Yu argued that it was unfair for developed nations to shift the burden of development onto developing countries, particularly climate change and other challenges caused by industrialisation.
The government envoy stated that China became one of the top economies by adopting a people-centred approach and lifting 800 million people out of poverty over the last 70 years.
He went on to explain that his country achieved its development goals because it was open to all countries for idea exchange, which was one of the country’s major strengths in the eyes of the world.
You stated that his country had adopted a people-centred approach to becoming relevant among the committee of nations by advocating for international stability and that it had never been at war with anyone in the previous 70 years.
He described China and Nigeria as strong partners who have collaborated to help each other grow.
Professor Sheriff Ibrahim, head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, recommended that Nigeria be deliberate in its pursuit of development after providing a historical context for China’s development.
He stated that Nigeria has many good policies that require self-discipline from leaders and followers to implement.
Another professor from the University of Abuja, Bibi Farouk, lamented that Nigeria has not grown to its full potential because its leaders have refused to develop the country’s infrastructure.
He believes Nigeria and China should include technological development in their partnership agreement to help each other grow.
He advised Nigeria to open its markets to China so that it can benefit from Chinese technology.
