Peter Obi Calls For Fair Edo Election, Urges Voters To Choose Labour Party
Edo State, Nigeria – Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, led a final campaign push for the Labour Party’s Edo State governorship candidate, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, on Wednesday.
Obi emphasised the importance of a free and fair election, calling on security agencies and INEC to uphold the rules of the game.
“The people of Edo State will resist any attempt to rig the election,” Obi declared at the grand finale rally.
He argued that Nigerians are suffering due to poor leadership choices and urged voters to “start the correction” by electing Akpata as the next governor on September 21st.
Highlighting Akpata’s commitment to development, Obi promised that the Labour Party candidate, if elected, would take responsibility for fixing federal roads connecting the state, without waiting for federal intervention.
“We are tired of state governors shifting blame to the federal government,” Obi stated, highlighting Akpata’s commitment to prioritising Edo State’s needs.
Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, Prof. Yusuf Baba Datti, echoed the call for a fair election, encouraging Labour Party supporters to utilise their “numerical strength” to elect their candidate.
He urged them not to be intimidated and to defend their votes, reminding them that “power belongs to the people.”
Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s ability to win the election, referencing their past successes.
The rally concluded with a call for Edo State residents to come out on Saturday and vote for the Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata and his running mate, Kadiri Asamah.
