Borno State Relief Fund: A Surge Of Support, Yet Much More Needed, Says Govt

As of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Maiduguri Relief Fund established by the Borno State Government had received a significant outpouring of support from individuals, corporations, and government bodies across the country.

The fund has received a total of N5.115 billion in pledged donations, with N2.165 billion already in the account. While this is a significant contribution, it is important to remember that not all pledges have been fulfilled.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote has pledged a whopping N2 billion, with N1 billion already donated to the National Emergency Management Agency.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata promised N1.5 billion.
The North Eastern Development Commission pledged N3 billion.
The Nigerian Senate contributed N54.5 million.
The House of Representatives contributed N100 million.
The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, pledged N500 million.

Several state governments have stepped up to assist Borno, with Bauchi State leading the way with an N250 million pledge.

The fund has also received a large number of non-cash donations, such as food, clothing, and other necessities. These include the following:

The North Eastern Development Commission provided 20,000 bags of rice, 20,000 cartons of macaroni, and 10,000 gallons of vegetable oil.
The Sumal Food Group supplied 50,000 loaves of bread and 5,000 cartons of biscuits.
The Nasarawa State Government provided two trucks each of rice, spaghetti, and sugar.
