Rotary Club To Offer Digital Library, Healthcare, WASH, Environment Projects To Abuja Communities
Communities in Abuja, the federal capital territory, will benefit from Rotary Club projects in library digital transformation, healthcare, WASH, and the environment over the next year.
The projects are worth N16.5 million, including library digital transformation (N5 million), healthcare project (N6.5 million), WASH programme (N4 million), and environmental programme, specifically tree planting (N1 million).
At his inauguration as President of the Rotary Wise of Wise Central (2024-2025), Dr. Tomola Emaleku promised to promote education, healthcare, economic development, and environmental protection in the community.
Emaleku, who succeeded Dr Albert Alkali, the club’s Immediate Past President, disclosed this in his acceptance speech as the 26th President of the club during the investiture ceremony on Monday night in Abuja.
Emaleku, an Associate Accountant and Fraud Examiner (ACCrFA) was elected President of the Magic of Rotary from 2024 to 2025.
He stated that the club will continue to strive for excellence in all aspects of its operations in the coming year.
Emaleku stated, “We will collaborate to make a positive impact in our community and beyond, through projects that promote education, healthcare, economic development, and environmental protection.”
“I urge Rotary supporters to look critically at these projects to support lifting them a reality, and lifting our community in need.”
He also pledged to prioritise peacebuilding and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water sanitation and hygiene, and maternal and child health.
In addition, other projects include basic education and literacy, as well as community economic development.
In a separate interview, Ms Sarah Sanda, the former Special Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Media, praised Emaleku’s project plans as appropriate for addressing the community’s challenges this year.
Sanda, a past president of the club, promised to help with project implementation through fundraising to ensure its completion.
Sandra stated, “This is especially important for the environment, given the current state of land degradation and deforestation.
“We need more people to join us; we cannot do this work alone; we are calling on well-meaning Nigerians and international organisations to assist with project implementation.
“What we are giving is our time, resources, and talent, but if we have the resources, we must use them for the benefit of humanity,” she stated.
The official inauguration of the 2024-2025 Board of Directors, the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals, and a virtual presentation of the proposed projects were the event’s highlights.
