Obi Says ‘My Investment In Health, Education For The Good Of Society,’ Donates N10m To Nursing College In Kogi
Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, has stated that his unwavering commitment to building a better nation through investments in critical areas of human and national development, such as health and education, is ultimately for the benefit of the nation and society’s future.
According to Dr. Yunusa Tanko, POMR Spokesperson, Obi made the remarks yesterday during a visit to Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State, where he donated N10 million to the College for the training of nurses, who he said are at the heart of primary healthcare delivery in the country.
He stated that Nigeria is currently undeveloped because the country has not aggressively invested in critical areas of development, such as health, education, and poverty alleviation.
He maintained that the country is currently facing serious security and socioeconomic challenges as a result of a lack of investment in these critical areas.
“I have not only been consistent in urging governments at all levels to invest more in health and education, but I have also continued to urge donor agencies to do so.
“Our investment in our children’s future is for the benefit of society and the advancement of our country,” Obi said.
Obi addressed the nursing students, reminding them that they are in a noble profession that cares about humanity.
“I am particularly concerned about the training of more nurses, who play critical roles in maintaining society’s health. As experts continue to warn of a severe shortage of nurses, we must remain proactive by investing in their training, so that we can have enough for our domestic health sector and export more to the global community,” he said.
Obi thanked the College’s proprietor, Bishop Anthony Ademu Adaji, as well as the College’s management and staff, for their dedication to training compassionate and competent healthcare professionals.
“Our commitment remains to create a New Nigeria that provides Nigerians with access to quality healthcare and education. It is POssible,” Obi emphasised.
