TRENDING: Bandits Kidnap Two Journalists, Wives, And Children In Kaduna
Two journalists from The Nation and Blueprint Newspapers have been kidnapped with their families in Kaduna State by bandits.
Late Saturday night, a large group of bandits stormed the Danhonu community in the state’s Millennium City of Chikun local government area and kidnapped many people.
The journalists, Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe and AbdulRaheem Audu were kidnapped along with their wives and children.
Alhaji Alabelewe is currently the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council’s Correspondents Chapel.
A family member of one of the victims, Taofeeq Olayemi, confirmed the incident, stating that the bandits stormed the community around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and began shooting sporadically before carrying out the kidnapping.
He claimed that they kidnapped Alhaji Alabelewe, his wife, and two of his children, while Alhaji Audu and his wife were abducted, leaving behind their sick daughter.
“They initially picked Alhaji Abdulgafar, his wife, and three of his children, as well as a girl who was staying with them, before asking the girl to return with one of the children, leaving Abdulgafar, his wife, and two children.
“They shattered their doors, and windows, and removed their burglary after scaling the fence,” he explained.
Olayemi, a family member of Mr Audu who lives near the victims’ homes, added: “They arrived around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and began shooting sporadically. They first forced Audu’s door open, taking him and his wife but leaving their sick daughter behind.
“Then they jumped through Abdulgafar’s fence and into his house. They went straight into his bedroom, grabbed him, his wife, and two of their children, and fled, after which the vigilantes arrived and began shooting into the air.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment because his phone was not connected at the time of filing this report.
