A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has claimed that the use of dynamite explosives by supporters of Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, protesting in Rivers State will lead to anarchy if not stopped immediately.

Recall that on June 25, an explosion occurred in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, when some political associates of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, protested.

According to reports, one of the protesters, Priye, attempted to detonate dynamite near the Hotel Presidential but injured himself.

In response to the news, civil society groups issued a joint statement signed by Comrade Maxwell Aniekwe condemning the use of weapons of mass destruction, particularly explosive devices, during protests.

They bemoaned the fact that some people are willing to endanger citizens’ lives simply to exert control over a democratically elected government.

Describing the attacks on the Rivers government as an act of terrorism, the groups vow to march for the removal of the Inspector General of Police and other top officials who have remained silent and have yet to launch an investigation and prosecution of pro-wike protesters and financiers behind the Rivers blast.

The CSOs stated, “We were shocked to learn of the senseless and violent incident. We completely condemn it; what occurred a few days ago in Rivers State was not a protest, but rather a terrorist act that has no place in our democracy.

“If the use of dynamite explosives by supporters of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike protesting in Rivers State is not stopped immediately, it will be an invitation to anarchy. It is surprising and disappointing that security agencies have been quiet since this happened.

“We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Inspector General of Police and the DSS to investigate who financed the use of explosives at a protest and prosecute anyone found guilty.

Nobody is above the law. If people are so drunk on power that they are willing to endanger the lives of innocent citizens, they must be prepared to face the consequences of their actions.

If this is not done, we will begin March with the removal of the Inspector General of Police and other head agencies that remain silent.”
