Royal Father Pledges Support For Community Health Initiatives In Igbogene
The Paramount Ruler of Igbogene, Royal Highness Professor Augustine Ikein, has pledged to collaborate closely with the Women Organised for Mentorship and Advocacy Network (WOMAN) and the Eunice Nnachi Women Advocacy Foundation (ENWAF) to address pressing health and social issues in the Igbogene community in Bayelsa state.
During a community engagement and advocacy visit, WOMAN’s Executive Director, Lady Eunice Nnachi, emphasised the critical need to address the consequences of cholera outbreaks, drug abuse, and neglect of maternal health.
Nnachi emphasised the need to improve sanitation and access to clean water to prevent cholera, as well as implement comprehensive drug abuse prevention and treatment programmes and increase investment in maternal healthcare services.
In response, the Royal Highness expressed gratitude for WOMAN’s initiative and promised to work with local governments, healthcare providers, and community leaders to develop a comprehensive strategy to address these issues.
He recognised the need for a multifaceted approach that draws on the expertise and resources of various stakeholders to improve the overall well-being of the Igbogene community.
The visit was viewed as a critical step towards empowering the community and encouraging collaborative efforts to address Igbogene’s pressing health and social issues.
The Royal Highness emphasised the significance of private initiatives such as WOMAN and ENWAF in collaboration with traditional rulers, the government, and other stakeholders to promote human welfare and collective well-being.
He stated, “Both in advanced and developing countries, encourage your kind of organisation to partner not only with traditional rulers but also with the government itself, to promote human welfare, which should be about governance.”
“You cannot expect the formal government to do everything. This private initiative to add value, promote, and create collective welfare is a positive idea.”
