Obi Explains Why He Wants South-East Governors To Collaborate
Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, has reiterated his call for South-East governors to work together, emphasising the importance of such unity for the region’s development. Obi made this statement at Jesuit College in Port Harcourt in response to a question about the previous day’s call for South-East Governors to collaborate.
In a press statement issued by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, POMR Spokesman, Obi stated that the entire country, including his own South-East zone, is facing a number of challenges. He expressed his desire for all regions to collaborate for the advancement of their respective areas, contributing to Nigeria’s overall development.
“The problems in the South-East are numerous, as they are elsewhere,” Obi stated. However, security remains the most pressing concern. I once again urge the Governors to work together, especially now, to solve this problem, because working alone will yield fewer results and consume more resources.”
Obi emphasised that it is now time for the Governors to work together to achieve collective success. He suggested that they connect with one another and even seek advice from former governors to share their experiences. This approach, he contended, is more effective than striving to be individual champions and failing in such selfish endeavours.
Obi expressed similar sentiments to journalists in Onitsha on Saturday, saying: “I thank the government for their efforts so far, but there is still work to be done. All leaders must band together and fight this. To effectively address these challenges, governors in the South East must work together.
“I would like to see the South-East governors collaborate more closely on economic issues as well. We need them to work together and engage other groups in the zone to ensure comprehensive development.”
