Obi Warns Implementing Four National Budgets Concurrently A Recipe For Disaster
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has identified a flaw in the simultaneous implementation of four national budgets, describing it as a recipe for chaos and frivolity.
On Saturday, the LP standards bearer posted on his X handle that it is a flagrant disregard for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability.
According to a press statement from Dr. Yunusa Tanko, POMR Spokesman, the former Anambra State Governor, “All available evidence confirms that the Nigerian government is implementing four national budgets concurrently. This is a flagrant disregard for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability.
“It is also a recipe for disorder, confusion, and disaster.
“This intentional action will result in frivolous items in approved budgets competing with essential projects for limited resources, exacerbating the Nigerian people’s suffering.
“It demonstrates that our leaders are out of touch with reality and cannot effectively manage our country’s finances.
“Unfortunately, this deliberate act of fiscal recklessness is being carried out by elected representatives of the people, betraying one of democracy’s most fundamental pillars. Leaders are elected to manage public resources in an organised fashion.
way.
“I respectfully request and, in fact, demand that this situation be reversed immediately in favour of a more responsible and transparent approach to budgeting.”
“We must prioritise the needs of the Nigerian people over the selfish interests of a few.”
“This is a call to action for all leaders to refrain from taking actions that will further drive the country into economic chaos.
“Neither the National Assembly nor the executive branch have any justification to promote or condone such unconscionable behaviour.
“We seek and insist on a nation governed by leaders who are frugal and responsible with public resources.”
“This is the only way we can create a great nation.”
