Borno: Emir Confirms Suicide Bombers Attack at Wedding, Burial Ceremonies, Killing Over 30 People

The Emir of Gwoza, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, has confirmed that multiple suicide attacks occurred on Saturday at various locations in Gwoza town, including a wedding reception and a burial ceremony.
The death toll is believed to have risen to 30 as a result of the coordinated attacks that occurred on Saturday afternoon, causing panic as people scrambled for safety.
Reliable sources within Gwoza told journalists that more than 30 innocent civilians were killed, with over 100 injured to varying degrees, and that many of the victims had been evacuated to Maiduguri for medical attention.
The Emir of Gwoza confirmed the incident to journalists, saying: “The entire Gwoza council area is in deep mourning following multiple suicide attacks on our community.
“The first suicide attack was masterminded by an unidentified woman who sneaked into a popular young man’s wedding reception in Gwoza with two children and detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), killing herself and many others.
“A few minutes later, another suicide bomber sneaked into a nearby burial ceremony and detonated Improvised Explosive Devices, and as I speak to you, the third explosion occurred a few minutes ago, resulting in additional casualties.
“At least 100 people were injured, and the majority of those who suffered serious injuries were rushed to Maiduguri with military escort for proper medical care.
“This is only a preliminary confirmation, as the details of the casualties are still unknown, but I will keep you updated on any developments.”
Reacting to the incidents, member representing Gwoza/Chibok/Damboa federal constituency, Ahmed Usman Jaha, sympathised with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the multiple attacks, even as he prayed Allah to grant the souls of the deceased Aljannatul Firdaus and wished those who sustained injuries a speedy recovery.

* In my presence, at about exactly 3pm, the 1st bomb blast in Gwoza occurred detonated by a female suicide bomber in the midst of the marriage ceremony celebration. It affected more than 30 persons with various levels of injuries and instant death.
* Some minutes later, another blast occurred around Gen Hospital
* Again, at the funeral services (janaiza), another lady rushed onto the congregation and detonated another one with one lot of casualties.
* We were in the hospital coordinating the rescue mission, and another one exploded from a female teenager.
* So far, 18 deaths comprise children, adult male, females, and pregnant women.
* 19 seriously injured were conveyed to Maiduguri in 4 ambulances 23 are waiting for military escort in the Medical Regimental Services (MRS) Clinic.
* I am now coordinating for chopper this night. I have mobilized emergency drugs to complement the shortage of drugs in Gwoza.
* I am in Gwoza myself.
* The degree of injuries ranges from abdominal raptures, scull fractures, and limb fractures.
* Also, I received a report that there is a suspected suicide bomber in Pulka.
