Reps Express Concern, Order Investigation Into Data Breach At NIMC
The House of Representatives has instructed its Committee on Digital and Information Technology to carry out a thorough investigation into the recent data breach at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, Chairman of the House Committee on Digital and Information Technology, who expressed concern about the impact of the data breach on Nigeria’s Cybersecurity space.
Speaking after the plenary session, Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi, stated that the investigative panel is expected to meet with the management of the National Identity Management Commission next week to brief the committee on the outcome of its internal investigation, among other committee terms of reference.
It should be noted that the recent data breach at NIMC compromised the personal information of over 50 million Nigerians, emphasising the need for improved data protection and security measures.
