Gov Radda Mourns Death Of Sa’in Katsina, Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua At 95
Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, the Governor of Katsina State, expressed sorrow over the passing of the Sa’in Katsina, Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua.
Alhaji Na Funtua, a revered traditional title holder and pillar of Katsina’s cultural heritage, died on Thursday, leaving a legacy of service, wisdom, and cultural stewardship that has greatly influenced Katsina state.
Alhaji Na Funtua was born on May 25, 1929, in Unguwar ‘Yantaba, Katsina, and has lived a life full of experiences and contributions to society.
His journey took him beyond Nigeria’s borders, where he spent his early years, forming long-lasting friendships, including one with former Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah.
In 1973, in recognition of his exemplary character and contributions to the emirate, the late Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Usman Nagogo, turbaned him as Sa’in Katsina, marking the start of five decades of dedicated service to the Katsina Emirate and its people.
Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua was a man with numerous talents and interests. He founded the NASARA CLUB; a football team that helped shape Katsina’s sporting landscape.
His linguistic prowess was remarkable, as he could speak eight languages fluently, reflecting his cosmopolitan outlook and role as a cultural bridge builder.
Governor Radda said, “The death of Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua is an irreparable loss not only to his family but to the entire Katsina State.”
His life exemplified the values of unity, cultural pride, and service that we cherish. His wisdom and counsel will be greatly missed in the affairs of our state.”
“On behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, the Katsina Emirate Council, and all who were touched by his remarkable life. We ask Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi,” he said.
The Governor urged all Katsina State residents to pray fervently for the repose of the soul of the late Sa’in Katsina and to reflect on Alhaji Na Funtua’s exemplary life and strive to emulate his dedication to community and cultural preservation.
“May Allah grant him eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear this great loss,” said Radda.
