APC Chieftain Slams Pro-Wike Gang’s Reintroduction Of Arms, Violence Into Rivers Politics
Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and All Progressives Congress chieftain, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has condemned in the strongest terms schemes by pro-Wike political hustlers comprised of wrecked former Council Chairmen and stranded ex-Lawmakers to turn the Rivers political playground into an unsavoury scene of carnage and bloodbath to justify their hubristic call for emergency rule.
Recall that on June 25, 2024, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated near the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt during a protest led by political associates of the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, despite warnings from the Commissioner of Police not to participate in the procession due to serious security concerns.
In a statement made available to the media, the APC Chief said the protest was a ruse devised by those he described as’sore losers to unleash mayhem in strategic locations in the state, including the Hotel Presidential, where members of the Senate Committee on Privatisation who were in the state for an oversight function were lodged, to give national colour to their vain call for a state of emergency.
Describing the crude political escapade of the overzealous political jobbers as contrary to every recognised standard of civilised behaviour and conventional conduct of responsible citizens in a democracy, Chief Eze said it is tantamount to waging war against the state, for disgruntled politicians to freely resort to armed warfare in a bid to foist their inordinate desire on the state and her people against the spirit of the law and in defiance of a reasonable order to
The APC Chief expressed concern that investigations into the incident will be hampered by undue interference, as reports suggest that the Force Headquarters is under pressure to transfer the prime suspect in the explosion to Abuja, where the chief proponent and provocateur of the Rivers political crisis, Nyesom Wike, holds sway as territorial Minister.
Eze urged the Inspector General of Police to resist any pressure to halt the investigation into the incident to uncover the masked man of influence fueling armed conflict in the state and destabilising Gov. Siminialayi Fubara’s administration, which has so far demonstrated rare competence in steering the state’s government business.
Similarly, the APC Chief urged the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to extend an invitation to the protesters, particularly their leaders, such as House of Reps Member Hon. O.K. Chinda, former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, former Chairman of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, George Ariorlu, and others.
Eze swasted that the invitation is necessary to allow them to explain the reasoning behind their actions, which were in flagrant violation of the police’s serious warning against embarking on their ill-fated expedition, which turned out to be a bloodbath.
He praised the State Commissioner of Health for her proactiveness in deploying strategies to identify the IED detonator and ensuring that he is resuscitated from his unconscious state and gains stability so that he can provide useful information to the police to aid their investigation.
