The Niger Delta Development Commission, or (NDDC) has laid the groundwork for the construction of a Christian chapel at its Port Harcourt headquarters.

Speaking at the ceremony, NDDC Managing Director Dr Samuel Ogbuku stated that it was fitting and proper to construct a suitable place to worship God in the Commission’s headquarters.

In a press statement issued by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs, Ogbuku stated, “When I returned to the office and toured the premises, I was shown a corner in the ancillary building that staff were using for worship and as their chapel.” I told myself that a facility like the headquarters complex would be incomplete unless it included a special building for God.

“On December 23, 2023, when we held our end-of-year thanksgiving, I declared that our next thanksgiving would be held in a proper edifice for the worship of God. The location will be specifically designated and dedicated to Christian worship.

Ogbuku stated that the Niger Delta region holds a special place in Nigeria and deserves good things, observing: “I have moved around the country, and you will notice that almost all Federal Government Agencies have a mosque or a church. How come a region with Christianity as the predominant religion lacks a worship space in our Commission?”

He said, “The Chapel will serve multiple purposes. Anyone in the Niger Delta can have access to it; it is not limited to those who come to NDDC to bid on contracts. This structure will benefit the people of the Niger Delta, and I am confident that once completed and commissioned within the next six months, we will all return here to express our gratitude.”

In his prayers at the ceremony, Salvation Ministries’ General Overseer, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, stated that by constructing a chapel for God’s worship, NDDC had invited the Almighty Father to be present.

He stated that by honouring God, the Commission was attracting more blessings, emphasising that the Almighty Father had been faithful and merciful to the NDDC and thus deserved to be praised and adored.

The cleric offered special prayers for the NDDC’s management and staff, assuring them that God’s favour would come their way because they had revered the Almighty Father.

Alabo Boma Iyaye, NDDC Executive Director, Finance and Administration, expressed gratitude to the NDDC Managing Director for initiating the chapel project. He noted that God had answered the staff’s prayers by bringing the current Board and Chief Executive Officer who are “God-fearing and eager to make a difference in the Niger Delta region.”
